Februrary 1, 2010- Fresh Start, and WA!!!

So, I made the newbie mistake of adding lots with roads. It's not bad, but it's not really all that great since that means my world could be susceptible to lot/road tearing, which I've already had to deal with on multiple occasions. Also, the textures are bothering me. So, I've decided to start anew on a new template, but I won't scrap the other neighborhood entirely. Just in case things don't work out with the new template, I don't want to waste all that time I spent on the first one, you know?

Anyway, I'm going to try this on a medium flat map instead of a large one. If I plan on sharing this world, size should be something to look into since I plan on making the world pretty condensed. I don't have pics mainly because it's 11:57PM and I still haven't opened up CAW. There should be pics tomorrow.

I got World Adventures!!! As of right now, I'm currently afraid to install it and I want to make my world (personal or not) base-game compatible. That way, if I install WA and then have to uninstall, I won't lose certain items in my neighborhood. Oh, and for anyone interested, Twallan is currently testing his story progression mod for patches 1.7, 1.8, 2.2, and 2.3. If I weren't so consumed by CAW, I'd test it myself. However, I can't really afford to bork up my game (again). Recently, my cc decided to mess with my launcher and cause a huge headache that ended with me deleting the entire Electronic Arts file to get it to spawn an entirely new one. Basically, when I went to the "Installed" tab, my launcher would freeze after about 5 names coming up, and it would basically stay frozen. And unfortunately, deleting the Downloads folder only made things worse. So now I'm pretty paranoid about installing anything. The only cc in my game are store items. *sigh* And I "lost" all my saved games in the process (and I'm too afraid to put them back in).

So, that's all for now, and happy simming!

  1. So what's the newbie mistake of lots with roads and what's the best way to do it. Enquiring minds and all that. :)

I started one CAW. Learned some stuff from that one and moved to a new one. Learned some more stuff from the new one but it's time to start a third.

  2. Yes, enquiring minds want to know.

I've even noticed some tearing of the lots in the towns that came with the game when I put houses on different lots, sometimes. At least I think that is what it's called.

  3. lol, Yeah I was going to ask about the lots and road thing too.

ANd you end on Happy Simming. Yeah, not so easy with TS3. Now it's like a blessing for luck!

  4. Ah, I see I wasn't too clear on that. I'm not certain that placing the roads and lots down as I go would create the road tearing, but the lot tearing in my old world was pretty severe and I have a feeling it was due to the fact that I literally placed the road, placed the lot, built on that lot, and then made another road section. And smoothing out the roads didn't help much either. I'm going to try and keep the building surfaces as level as possible and see if that helps the lot/road tearing any.
