January 16, 2010- CAW Update

So the recreation of my unnamed world (which is based off my TS2 neighborhood Crescent Valley) and my remodel of Desiderata Valley (also TS2) is coming along smoothly. I got the basic layout down, and now I'm working on the mountains. I'm planning to do this one section of land (or as I like to say, "life") at a time. But my problem is, I don't know whether or not I should start on the coast first (the very front of the neighborhood) and work my way back, or if I should start on the mountainous area (the very back of the neighborhood) and work my way forward. Hmm...

I'll be updating more with CAW in the near future, but Untitled_World (it's temporary name) still has a long way to go. I think maybe a month or so. But so that you're never without an update, I'll be sure to update here. :)

  1. Will this world need the expansion pack to play it?

  2. Nope, I don't own WA. Not yet, anyway. Maybe I will when I'm assured that the updates for it won't destroy my comp. :)

  3. I asked because I don't have it either. I was able downloaded and play the world Sim_Outlaw made because he made it without a lot stuff from the EP.

Most of the towns being made are using a lot of WA stuff.

  4. Yeah, I noticed that too. WA is used in quite a few worlds. I can see why though, I kind of want to get it just for CAW alone. :)

  5. I finally installed CAW just to give it a try. And discovered that this is one piece of software that really requires you to read the manuals to get started. I usually just start off and work out what to do as I go but this tool, no can do.

Never made my own hood in ts2 so it will be a new experience. When I can tear myself away from playing and adding new pics to the blogs.

  6. I hope you have fun with it! I've created many a neighborhood in TS2, but I never used my own template(s). I always used the premades, or ones that I downloaded. And making neighborhoods was a walk in the park compared to CAW; just plop some lots down on roads and you're good to go! (there was more detail, but again, they were very simple)

CAW is definitely extensive, but it doesn't really require "skill" per se. That's what I like about it. All it requires in my opinion is patience, a little luck, observation, and an imagination. I actually learned most of what I'm using in CAW by watching others create their own neighborhoods. I found this little link that i found especially handy, but I was going to wait until the next update to post it. I'll just post it now:

  7. What I meant by "doesn't require skill", I meant that for the more basic stuff. The more advance things do require some skill as well as experience with CAW. But, it's a lot more creativity than anything as I see it. :)

  8. I really liked the templates in Sims2 and wish CAW was less time consuming. I may try it again someday. I stopped because it was so slow for me. I deleted the CAW but kept the help file in case I want to try again. I'll bet even the EA designers were cursing when they first started using it.

    Thanks for the link.
